UCP Canister Representative

Help us create a brighter future for Students at United Cerebral Palsy

UCP of Central California is in search of volunteers to help us with our Canister Program

A Canister Partner is a person who has agreed to place a few canisters in cooperating neighborhood businesses, restaurants, stores, gas stations or mini-markets near their cash registers.  Then, on a regular basis, the UCP Canister Volunteer collects the money in the canisters that others have contributed and returns it to UCP's office each month.

Who CAN be a UCP Canister Partner?

UCP Canister Partners include retired people, business people, homemakers, Sunday School Classes, college students, professionals and teeangers. Ladies groups and senior citizens make WONDERFUL UCP Partners!  All it takes is compassion, commitment, and a few minute of one's time.

Who Benefits from the Canister Program?

Children, adults with disabilities and their families- and so do UCP Partners!  Since its inception, thousands of dollars in quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies have been collected to help continue UCP's Mission -  "advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities."
Specific examples of the usage of UCP funds include:

  • Support our children's early intervention and kindergarten readiness program by providing speech, physical and occupational therapists.
  • Provide funding for low income and rural families pre-school program that includes supplying special needs equipment, books, sensory supplies and other activities all to stimulate language and motor function.
  • Camp Mountain High Scholarships - allowing individuals that would not normally have the opportunity to travel to the Sierra's by Yosemite and explore nature.
  • Funding for the Adult Day Program curriculum and supplies for classes such as groceries for cooking classes; art supplies for our creative students that sell art for their own income; costumes and stage sets for our theater program and most importantly adaptive technology customized for students who need mmodified keyboard/screen for our computer and technology classes.
  • Community Integration - so that we can purchase sporting equipment for special olympics, field trips to the fish hatchery, zoo, fair, bowling, etc.
The greatest reward of all is knowing that the effort our Canister Partners put forth each month is doing a world of good.
