History

It was a defining moment in Southwest Fresno when a double homicide turned into a triple within one week. Soonafter, seven African American men who together represented
a total of 145 years of ministering to Southwest Fresno, made a 20 year commitment to building health and hope back into their community. The kids who were dying were
their kids, their friends kids and they were tired of watching programs come and go because of funding. What they knew they had to do was build an effort that belongs to Southwest
Fresno, that will be committed to training local leadership so that with or without funding they are able to address the problem.

On July 1, 2022 HandsOn Central California was pleased to announce a partnership with Fresno Street Saints (FSS). Serving as fiscal sponsor, HandsOn will come alongside FSS as they transition to become a strong, independent community-based organization improving outcomes for southwest Fresno families. HOCC will provide core business services while training and coaching staff and board members in sustainable non-profit practices.

In 2024, Fresno Street Saints had become a fully encorporated program within the HandsOn Central California programming.

Mission

To help restore Southwest Fresno to a safe and healthy community through empowered community leadership, social networks and sustainable holistic programs.

Approach

The goal of Fresno Street Saints is to provide programs that encompass all aspects of the lives of Southwest Fresno youth. Collaborating with community partners, Fresno Street Saints have developed inter-related programs to build resiliency into the lives of youth by promoting healthy choices in education, social environments, family and employment. Programs are also designed to integrate, empower and train community residents to provide program leadership.
