Disaster Preparedness Volunteer
United Way Fresno Madera Counties Listos California Farmworker Outreach
Summary:
This project is designed to provide migrant farm laborers (including those that work in fields, packing sheds, and other agricultural production) with emergency preparedness education and information. These workers are some of the most vulnerable residents of our communities and are often left out of outreach programs because of language barriers, legal loopholes, or fear. We are teaming up with local Community Benefit Organizations to conduct outreach with Central Valley farm workers to also ensure they have the protective equipment and information needed to stay safe while working in the fields. In order to complete this project we are looking for volunteers to partner with us to prepare and pack the Listos bags we need to complete these outreaches.
Training:
Volunteers will be trained by a United Way staff member to properly and efficiently pack the Listos bags. Each bag includes a disaster guide, COVID-19 prevention infographic, 211 campaign flyers, census information, PG&E Utility assistance programs, and PPE materials.
Time Commitment:
We are asking for volunteers to commit to serve in three hour shifts from 9am-12pm on the selected days. Please see scheduled opportunities.
Location of Service:
Ideally volunteers would come to the United Way Fresno Madera Counties, as there is plenty of room to social distance, but accommodations can be made to complete at home if necessary.
