Hands On Central California is committed to mobilizing volunteers to keep our children safe on their way to and from school. The Adult Crossing Guard Program is a partnership with the Fresno Unified School District and the City and County of Fresno to keep children safe as they attend school. This program provides crossing guards to 35 school sites in Fresno County and utilizes parent and community volunteers who safely cross over 15,000 elementary school children daily.
If you would like to become a volunteer for this program:
Available shift times:
7 :15 to 8:15 am and/or 2:00 to 3:00 pm
We can offer a $2.50 per morning and per afternoon reimbursement to our volunteers (some reimbursement for travel is available). It only takes 30-45 minutes of your time to keep our children safe. If you would like to join our team please contact Michael E. O’Hare at (559) 237-3101 or (866) 476-7787 toll free.
Crossing Guard Events:
Celebrity Crossing Guard Day
Each year
Hands On Central California
coordinates Celebrity Crossing Guard Day. City and school leaders
participate in this event in order to make citizens aware of the need to
drive with caution in and around schools.
Volunteer Recognition
Hands On Central California sponsors
an annual appreciation luncheon in recognition of these wonderful people
who keep Fresno’s young children safe.
Become a Partner in Safety
Hands On Central California must recruit and train 200 volunteers in order to assure that all sites have guards 5 days a week, morning and afternoon. In addition, Hands On Central California does the screening, background checks, handles the insurance coverage, purchases and maintains the equipment, and monitors the guards and sites daily.
