This summer Fresno youth will participate 7 different projects with an emphasis on different
community issues.
·
LEARN
- There are many
challenges facing our community, hunger, joblessness, housing, health,
poor quality air, to name just a few.
Youth hear about these challenges but often do not have the
facts. They also have ideas
about how things can change.
Experts from community challenge subject areas such as local
community based organizations, professors and government personnel will
teach and discuss these issues at the beginning of each service day.
·
PLAN/DISCUSS
- Youth have an opportunity to discuss the issues and talk
about their ideas for action.
They will learn what they can do to help.
·
ACT
- Working alongside
community based organizations, 20 youth will take action to change our
community. There will be
one adult for every 5 youth involved, teaching them skills, mentoring
each one as they progress through the project.
Proposed project include neighborhood revitalization,
intergenerational visits, homelessness, environment, and hunger.
·
REFLECT - Reflection is
the evaluation tool. It is
a quantitative and qualitative look at the service activity. It is also
a reflection of experience and learning for the youth.
It will document and journal the project through photography,
video, poetry, stories and social networks..
Recognition of the student’s efforts and local community and
business efforts will be incorporated.
