Annual Real Heroes Event
Heroes have a thousand faces who find strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles to help another. The 11th annual American Red Cross Central Valley “Real Heroes Event” honors these special individuals within our community. The “Real Heroes Event” was attended in 2012 by over 300 community leaders, corporate partners, and supporters of the American Red Cross Central Valley Region. American Red Cross Central Valley Chapter will be honoring our Real Heroes in March 2013.
The “Real Heroes Event” celebrates this quiet group of extraordinary people and exemplifies the mission of the American Red Cross: teaching people to save lives. The Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters by helping people prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies. Last year our local chapters, Central Valley Chapter and Kern Chapter, responded to 545 disasters and helped 3,543 individuals and families with emergency food, shelter and supplies. The Red Cross was the safety net for these people.
Across the country, Red Cross Volunteers do this every day, and what better way to celebrate this spirit of humanitarianism then by honoring those individuals in the Central Valley who have shown courage, kindness and unselfish character by their acts of heroism in our community.
Nominations are taken from throughout the Central Valley. A Heroes Selection Committee of community leaders reviews the nominations and selects winners. The awards will be presented at the Real Heroes Event in ten hero categories.
A major corporate sponsor underwrites the costs for the event and each award category has a corporate sponsor which is known as the “Real Hero Sponsor.” The corporate donations contribute to the Emergency Services provided to the community, by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
