Homebuilder Team

The Homebuilder Team helps our clients obtain stable housing. We are looking for trustworthy, reliable volunteers who have a genuine interest in getting to know our clients and the owner/managers of the housing where they live. The other attributes we seek are a faith-based purpose in life, discernment without judgement, a professional demeanor, and a positive, can do attitude. There are three different jobs on the homebuilding team: 1) contacting owner/managers by telephone; 2) field evaluations; and 3) data base entry and management. An auto mileage reimbursement is available for team members who do field evaluations. You do not have to be a housing expert to work on our team. We will teach you what you need to know to get started. You do need to be dedicated to learning about the housing industry, working as part of a team, and serving others. We will expect you to work 3 hours once or twice a week with time off scheduled in advance. One day each week needs to be in the office. The other day(s) can be offsite. We hope to build a team of 7 or 8 members so we can have a sense of teamwork and the depth to get the work done. We are building an inventory of housing: a) in decent condition; b) that our clients can afford; c) with nearby bus service, shopping and support services; and d) with owner/managers of housing who care about the well being of our clients.  In return, we a) pay the rent on time; b) build a sound business relationship with the owner/manager; c) coach our clients on their responsibilities; and d) encourage our clients to live by the Golden Rule. We support the Client Advocate Team and provide housing counseling services to clients when possible. The Homebuilder Team works under the general supervision of the Projects Director and reports to the Lead Client Advocate on a day to day basis. There is a lead volunteer with the homebuilding team who coaches and helps schedule the work. We will conduct interviews and orientation sessions each Friday for prospective volunteers who express interest in this work. We believe we are doing God's work. We are transforming the benefit administration industry for our most vulnerable men, women, and children . . . people with disabilities who receive SSI or VA benefits who do not have a responsible family member to help them establish a stable home. We look forward to meeting you.
