Emergency Response/Special Events Volunteer

Role:

The Emergency Response/Special Events volunteer will directly increase the capacity and community outreach of 2-1-1 Fresno County.  2-1-1 Fresno is an Information and Referral line that connects people to health, legal and human services in the county.  As we search to maximize our role in disaster response and our community outreach, the Emergency Response/Special Events volunteer will become very important.  2-1-1 disaster response will allow us to become a hub for updated information during the response period.  High coordination between county officials, call specialists and the public will facilitate the recovery process.

 

Responsibilities

The Emergency Response/Special Events volunteer will work to advance our presence in the county and will be asked to:

  • Research & keep records of upcoming events.
  • Attend special events to promote 2-1-1 Fresno services
  • Provide a comprehensive oral account about 2-1-1 services.
  • Provide a comprehensive oral account about United Way programs and mission.
  • Recruit volunteers at Information & Service Fairs.
    • Become familiar with our current volunteer positions.
    • Make appealing presentations about our volunteer opportunities.
    • Develop talking points.

 

During an emergency in which the EOP is activated, the Emergency Response/Special Events volunteer will be asked to:

  • Remain calm and professional.
  • Provide Information & Referral to distressed callers.
  • Input correct data to database.
  • Multitask and keep track of various calls.
  • Provide “Rumor Control”
    • Identify misleading disaster relief information
      • Confirm or correct it.
  • Keep open communication with callers and other call specialists
  • Work with other Resource Reporters to identify affected areas
    • By the collection of zip codes
  • Work with other Resource Reporter to identify scarcity of services.
  • Report findings to Incident Commander and Liaison Officer
  • Work to create informative pivot tables, charts and graphs.
  • Be creative in the presentation of information

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to remain calm in distressful times.
  • Good communication skills. Both oral and written.
  • Desire to help county residents in need.
  • Ability to organize large amount of data.
  • Desire to create new effective ways of data presentation
    • County mapping
  • Must be 18 years old.

 

Time Commitment:

The Emergency Response/Special Events volunteer will commit to 80hrs of work.  Training will be about 6-8hrs.  The volunteers will then work 3-5 hrs a week depending on their schedule.
