HandsOn Central California coordinates volunteers during local disasters and ensures those wishing to assist are properly identified and utilized based on their skills.
HandsOn Central California fills the following two roles in Disaster response and recovery:
Disaster Response Volunteers:
Volunteers who come forward during a disaster range from highly trained and certified professionals to citizens who have never responded to an emergency before. As our nation learned during Hurricane Katrina, a large-scale disaster can rapidly overwhelm the capacity of local response organizations. These caring individuals can be deployed to help with disaster response and recovery and could have a major impact on how quickly and effectively the community recovers. HandsOn Central California’s Disaster CADRE matches the spontaneous volunteers who step forward in disaster with agencies in immediate need of their skills. Bilingual Volunteers are especially welcomed.

Disaster CADRE:
Cadre members are themselves volunteers trained in HOCC systems for registering, processing and referring volunteer resources. Members of our Disaster Cadre train and plan year round to set up Emergency Volunteer Centers (EVC) to serve this purpose during a disaster. HandsOn Central California’s Disaster Cadre are highly motivated, multi-tasking and multi-talented emergency workers who can manage these hundreds if not thousands of unaffiliated volunteers. Bilingual Volunteers are especially welcomed.
